A solid dual-camera setup
The Nord CE5 doesn’t exactly shine in the camera hardware department, but it still features a solid, albeit basic, set of snappers.
The main camera is a 50MP unit based on the Sony LYT-600 sensor. It is a 1/1.95″ sensor with 0.8µm individual pixels. The whole thing sits behind an f/1.8 lens and has OIS. OnePlus says that the camera supports the same Ultra HDR, RAW HDR and Real Tone exposure algorithms and technology as the OnePlus 13.
The other camera on the phone’s back is an 8MP fixed-focus ultrawide. There’s nothing particularly special about it. It is based on the OmniVision OV08D10 sensor with a 1/4″ sensor size and 1.12µm pixels. There is no autofocus available, and the aperture is set to f/2.2.
Front camera: 16 MP Sony IMX480, f/2.4, 23mm, 1/3.09″, 1.00µm; 1080p@60fps
Finally, we have a 16MP selfie cam. Again, no autofocus. This one is based on the Sony IMX480 sensor (1/3.09″, 1.00µm), with an f/2.4 lens.
The camera interface is your standard OnePlus affair. It is very well laid out with plenty of options to tinker with. Pro mode is available on both rear cameras, but not on the selfie camera.
Daylight photo quality
Main camera
The main camera captures decent, though not particularly impressive, photos. The detail is good, but there is also plenty of noise. Uniform surfaces often come out looking smudged and smeared. Contrast isn’t bad, and neither are the colors. The dynamic range could be a bit wider, but it is quite decent as it is.

Portrait shots look decent as well. There isn’t much in the way of skin texture coming through, but the skin tones are nice and pleasing. Subject detection and separation seem spot on, and we like the quality of the background blur.

You can force the main camera to capture in its full 50MP resolution. However, don’t expect any major improvements in detail or quality. These shots are slightly less processed, and therefore, less sharpening is applied on a pixel level. However, they are very similar to the regular ones in terms of quality.

The 2x digital zoom crops from the main camera are relatively clean, but not entirely free from noise. Still, they are perfectly usable.

Ultrawide camera
The 8MP ultrawide is expectedly quite unimpressive. It struggles to deliver detail, and its dynamic range is rather limited. On the flip side, the colors look nice.

Selfie camera
Selfie performance can also be best described as decent, but nothing to phone home about. Skin tones appear natural enough, but there is very little skin texture visible. The focal plane is at least nice and wide, making for a forgiving shooting experience.

Low-light camera quality
The main camera captures solid low-light photos. The detail is good, and so are the contrast and colors. Darker areas are well-developed, and the same applies to highlights. Light sources are well contained. There is a bit of softness here and there in the frame, but nothing major.

The Nord CE5 has an automatic night mode that triggers quite reliably. There is a manual night mode beyond that, which doesn’t seem to actually differ substantially from the regular mode.

2x zoom shots from the main camera are naturally a bit softer, but other than that, they hold up quite well and are similar in quality to the 1x shots.

The ultrawide struggles in low-light conditions. To be fair, we’ve seen a lot worse from an 8MP camera, but the results here still aren’t particularly good. They are soft, blurry and noisy all around.

The selfie camera is merely decent in low light. There is practically no skin texture, but skin tones look alright.

Video capture quality
The Nord CE5 can capture video at up to 4K@60fps with its main camera, 1080p@30fps with its ultrawide camera, and 1080p@60fps with its selfie camera. It should be noted that the phone captures in H.265/HEVC by default to save space while maintaining the same quality level. If you have any compatibility concerns, you should disable the option in camera settings to fall back to H.264/AVC. Other than that, you get a stereo AAC audio stream, and everything is packaged in a standard MP4 container.
You can check out the playlist below, which includes multiple video samples.
4K video from the main camera looks great. There is plenty of detail and practically no noise. The colors look great, and the contrast is excellent. The Dynamic range could use some work, though, particularly to handle clipped highlights. The 2x zoomed videos from the main camera pretty much share the same quality characteristics. The ultrawide videos are quite soft and noticeably lack detail, which is undesirable. At least the colors look good.
The Nord CE5 does a pretty decent job of stabilizing its main camera footage. Still, beyond the regular capture mode, there is also Ultra Steady, which lowers resolution to 1080p and switches to 60fps. The stabilization it offers, however, honestly left us disappointed.
In low light, the main camera holds its own well. There is some noise in the frame, but also plenty of detail, and good handling of both dark areas and light sources. 2x zoom videos are a bit blockier and obviously heavily sharpened, but still usable. The ultrawide videos are pretty bad – overly soft and noisy.
