Summary

  • Samsung rolls out June 2025 security patch for Galaxy S25 series in South Korea.
  • Update includes bootloader version 4, hinting at upcoming One UI 8 beta release.
  • Galaxy S25 Edge hasn’t received the update yet; reason for delay remains unknown.

Samsung has been quite busy on the software front recently. While the company is updating older Galaxy smartphones to One UI 7, it’s also testing the upcoming One UI 8 version based on Android 16 on Galaxy S25 series devices. But Samsung hasn’t forgotten those running the stable build of One UI 7 on their S25. Like clockwork, Samsung has released a new monthly update for the Galaxy S25 series, bringing the security patch to June 2025.

As spotted by prominent Samsung leaker @tarunvats33 on X, Samsung has started rolling out the June 2025 update for the Galaxy S25 Ultra, Galaxy S25+, and Galaxy S25 in South Korea. If history is any indication, a wider rollout should begin in the US, Europe, and India later this week. If you own Samsung’s latest flagship, you can check for the update in your region by going to Settings > Software update > Download and install.

The update appears to be about 550MB in size, though it may vary depending on the device. While the update doesn’t bring any major changes, Samsung’s Security Bulletin notes that it patches more than 35 high-risk vulnerabilities.

The next One UI 8 beta might be coming soon

It’s also worth noting that the update upgrades the bootloader to version 4 on Galaxy S25 devices. For those unaware, the bootloader is the first program that runs when you press the power button, and once updated to a new bootloader version, you can’t roll back to an older firmware version.

Interestingly, this same bootloader version was spotted in an internal One UI 8 beta build last week, according to Sammobile. This suggests the next One UI 8 beta may be just around the corner, as matching bootloader versions between One UI 7 and 8 builds will make it easier for users to switch between them.

Samsung has not yet released the update for the recently launched Galaxy S25 Edge, even in Korea. The reason remains unclear, but considering the device has been out for nearly a month, it should’ve joined the update cycle with other S25 series devices. We may know more once the update rolls out to more regions.
