Google’s redesigned Settings panel has already made its way to Android 16, but it looks like the visual overhaul isn’t stopping there.
The Settings redesign, for reference, places similar settings within shared containers, uses contrasting backgrounds to separate settings, and introduces new and colorful icons for primary options like Network and Internet, Connected devices, Apps, Notifications, and more.

Now, in a bid to further refine Settings, Google has already started testing out a visual overhaul for subsequent menus, but the revamp only applies to those powered by Android System Intelligence on Pixel devices.
We’re specifically referring to the Settings UI for tools like Live Caption and Live Translate, At a Glance, Now Playing, and more.
As highlighted by the folks over at Android Authority, the changes are powered by a new Android System Intelligence build, though they’re only showing up for users running one of Android 16’s QPR1 beta version. They’re part of Google’s broader Material 3 Expressive revamp, bringing more rounded UI elements, larger buttons, bigger toggles, bolder page headers, and more.
Everything that’s new
Old (left), new (right)
-
Now Playing: Surfaces with a new and significantly larger magnifying glass UI to denote the feature’s song identification capabilities. Toggles surface with a checkmark when enabled, and with an ‘X’ when disabled. Subsequent options like Enhance Now Playing, Now Playing history, and Default music player now sit within visually distinct containers.
-
Live Translate: Surfaces with a bolder header at the top, paired with the new and updated toggles as mentioned above. Subsequent options like Only download languages on Wi-Fi, Translate to, and Translate from appear within distinct containers, paired with a new pill-shaped themed container for Add a language.
-
Apps in search: Surprisingly, this page does not utilize the updated toggles. That could change by the time the new UI rolls out widely.
-
Expressive Captions: The feature’s Show word duration effect toggle has been renamed to Lengthen words, paired with a more descriptive description. The aforementioned toggles and updated container UI apply here.
-
At a Glance: The Pixel Launcher’s At a Glance customization setting screen, similar to Apps in search, does not utilize the updated Material 3 Expressive toggles. It does, however, divide sub menus like Manage Personalization and Customize into their own containers.
These aren’t significant changes by any means, but they do work to offer consistency and cohesion across the complete Android settings experience. Users running stable Android 16 can expect these to go live with the first quarterly update in September.
