Display

The Honor 400 Pro features a 6.7-inch OLED screen with 1,280 x 2,800 pixels resolution or 460ppi density. The display supports 10-bit color depth, 120Hz refresh rate, and HDR Vivid including HDR10 certifications for Netflix, Prime, and YouTube.

The panel has a pill-shaped cutout for the selfie camera and the depth sensor.

Honor advertises this display for its 5,000nits of peak brightness, 1.5nits minimum brightness, DCI-P3 color gamut coverage, color correction during sunlight brightness boost, natural tone (color temperature correction), 3840Hz PWM dimming, and some good reduction in eye fatigue via Honor Eye Care mode.

We captured exactly 1.5nits of minimal brightness, 616nits of maximum manual and 1,481nits of maximum automatic brightness. Reducing the white patch down to 30% and less, yields more than 3,000nits of brightness.

There are three refresh rate modes available on the Honor 400 Pro – Dynamic, Standard, and High.

Oddly both High and Standards are fixed at 120Hz and 60Hz, respectively. Usually, those still drop the refresh rate to a lower level for idle screen, but not on this Honor.

The Dynamic one dials down to 60Hz for static images and video streaming. We saw 90Hz and 120Hz used in most compatible apps.

The Honor 400 Pro is successfully recognized as HDR10 and HDR10+ certified device and we can confirm it streams high-resolution HDR10 content on YouTube, Netflix and Prime Video.

Battery life

The Honor 400 Pro is powered by a 5,300mAh Si/C battery, up from 5,200mAh on the Honor 200 Pro.

The Honor 400 Pro scored an Active Use Rating of 13:54 hours. It did beat some of its competitors, but for the most part, it matches most handsets in the price bracket. The Realme GT 7 phones are outliers in this case, with considerably bigger batteries.

Overall, the Honor 400 Pro provides an adequate battery life for the given hardware and it scored very well across all tests.

Charging test

The Honor 400 Pro supports up to 100W fast wired and up to 50W fast wireless charging. It can also reverse wired and wireless charged other devices.

The phone ships without a charger in the box, but Honor is giving away a free 100W Honor SuperCharge power adapter with the phone via its official web stores.

When using this 100W Honor charger, we clocked 53% of charge in 15 mins, 93% in 30 mins and 100% in just 38 mins with the Honor 400 Pro.

Note that the Honor 400, which has the same battery capacity and supports “only” up to 66W charging reached 100% just 3 mins slower, meaning that 100W max charging is used only in the first few minutes, and then the power drops to 66W or lower levels. Whether you buy the 66W or the 100W Honor charger, there will be a minor difference in the charging time.

The Honor 400 Pro has a host of measures that you can enable in settings to prolong the lifespan of its battery. When turned on, the Smart Battery Capacity feature stops charging a notch below the cell’s actual full capacity. Safe charging, meanwhile, cuts off power once the battery is full and starts over when the level drops below 95% – ensuring you won’t be constantly pumping power in if you have your phone plugged in for longer. Additionally, you can have the phone cut off charging at 70%, 80% or 90% limit.

Speakers

The Honor 400 Pro has a hybrid stereo speaker setup. The earpiece doubles as a stereo speaker with additional top-facing outlets for better audio balance.

Honor offers 200% High Volume sound mode at the last step of the volume bar. This mode magnifies the higher frequencies at the expense of vocals and bass. While it does appear a bit louder to our ears, it comes at the expense of perceived sound quality, so it’s a tradeoff you should be mindful of.

Honor 400 Pro review

The two speakers scored a Very Good mark on our loudness test when playing at 100% volume. The sound is good – the high frequencies are well presented, the vocals are alright, though the bass is minimal.

Use the Playback controls to listen to the phone sample recordings (best use headphones). We measure the average loudness of the speakers in LUFS. A lower absolute value means a louder sound. A look at the frequency response chart will tell you how far off the ideal “0db” flat line is the reproduction of the bass, treble, and mid frequencies. You can add more phones to compare how they differ. The scores and ratings are not comparable with our older loudspeaker test. Learn more about how we test here.
