Displays
The Motorola Razr 60 Ultra features two displays – the foldable 7.0-inch one and the 4.0-inch on the cover. Both feature support for 1B colors, dynamic 165Hz refresh rate, Dolby Vision, and HDR10+.
The official specs list peak brightness only – 4,500nits for the inner and 3,000nits for the cover screen.
The two displays are very closely matched in terms of brightness and when using the manual control, you will get similar nits on either side. The same goes for the minimum and maximum brightness.
The cover screen has a maximum manual brightness of 500nits and a maximum automatic brightness of 1507nits. The minimum one is 2.9nits.
The foldable inner screen offers 487nits for maximum manual and 1489nits for maximum automatic brightness. The minimum brightness with a white patch is 2.3nits.
We would have surely appreciated if the manual control allowed for some higher brightness levels. As it is, if you want to go brighter than 487nits, you can only get it in auto mode. It’s an odd decision on Motorola’s part, one that can be explained only with overheating considerations.
There are three refresh rate options on the Razr 60 Ultra – Smart and Balanced (Auto), Hyper smooth, and Efficiency first (60Hz).
All three modes offer dynamic switching and drop the refresh rate down to 1Hz for an idle screen, and 24Hz/30Hz/60Hz depending on the game, video, etc.
Hyper Smooth displays the UI and all compatible apps at 120Hz refresh rate. Smart and Balanced also displays the UI at 120Hz, but most apps use a 90Hz refresh rate.
The displays theoretically support 144Hz and 165Hz, but we saw neither in the automatic modes. The 165Hz option can be forced only through the gaming utility, for a compatible game.
Finally, let’s talk about HDR. Both screens are Dolby Vision and HDR10+ certified, but at the time of reviewing, Netflix hadn’t got the memo yet. We’re sure the phone will be whitelisted by the time the phone is released to the market. YouTube serves HDR10 content hassle-free.
Battery life
The Motorola Razr 60 Ultra is powered by a 4,700mAh battery, a notable increase over the 4,000mAh cell inside the Razr 50 Ultra.
The new flip phone scored an outstanding Active Use Score of 15:10h and aced all individual tests. Nice!
Charging speed
The Motorola Razr 60 Ultra supports up to 68W TurboCharging and up to 15W wireless charging. The phone ships without a power adapter, so if you need the fastest possible charging speed, you need to get yourself a 68W+ USB-PD adapter.
We recharged the Razr 60 Ultra with Motorola’s own 68W charger, and the times are good. We got 48% of charge in 15mins, 78% in 30mins, and a full charge took exactly 45mins.
You can enable the usual options for prolonged battery lifespan such as Optimized Charging (going by your habits) and overcharge protection (80% limit most of the time and 100% once a week).
Charge boost is the opposite – it recharges faster, but the battery gets warmer. This is the mode we used for our charging test.
Speakers
The Motorola Razr 60 Ultra offers stereo speakers – one is the earpiece, and another one sits behind a large hole at the bottom of the phone. Despite the different outlets, the balance of the sound is quite alright.
The speakers support Dolby Atmos and the enhancement is turned on in Smart mode.
The Motorola Razr 60 Ultra speakers scored a Very Good mark on our loudness test. The audio quality is very good, too, with good bass, great vocals, and well-presented high-frequency range.
Use the Playback controls to listen to the phone sample recordings (best use headphones). We measure the average loudness of the speakers in LUFS. A lower absolute value means a louder sound. A look at the frequency response chart will tell you how far off the ideal “0db” flat line is the reproduction of the bass, treble, and mid frequencies. You can add more phones to compare how they differ. The scores and ratings are not comparable with our older loudspeaker test. Learn more about how we test here.
