Messaging platform WhatsApp appeared to be not working for some users on Saturday. Some users reported difficulties in uploading their statuses or sending messages on the Meta-owned app in the evening today.
According to DownDetector, which tracks outages by collating status reports from several sources, including user-submitted errors on its platform, at least 597 complaints were registered against WhatsApp till 5:22 pm. Of them, 85% of complaints were related to sending messages, 12% of people experienced difficulties in the app, and 3% during login.
Some users were unable to upload their statuses on WhatsApp, while others reported errors while sending messages on groups. Social media users started using #Whatsappdown again as more people reported problems on the platform.
Is it just me or your WhatsApp is down as well ? I am trying to upload status and it’s taking forever to do so . #Whatsappstatusdown— Khusboo Sharma (@khusboo_runthla) April 12, 2025
Hey @WhatsApp , is the app down? I’m having trouble sending messages – they’re just not going through. Anyone else facing this? #WhatsAppDown— Arpit shukla ✍🏽 (@JournoArpit) April 12, 2025
“Is it just me or your WhatsApp is down as well? I am trying to upload status and it’s taking forever to do so,” said a user on X. Another individual said, “I thought it was an issue with iOS 18.4 since I started facing it after the upgrade. I restarted my phone and tried to upload a WhatsApp status, but it didn’t work. Then I Googled it and found out that WhatsApp is down.”
There was no immediate statement from WhatsApp on the outage. Some users reported similar outage on Facebook and Instagram as well, both owned by Meta. Over 530 million Indians use WhatsApp, and nearly 3 billion people use it worldwide.
This comes over a month after the platform experienced a massive outage in late February, leaving many users across the world unable to use the app properly. Users were unable to connect or send messages via the WhatsApp app or WhatsApp Web or make any calls.
The apparent WhatsApp problem also came as hundreds of users across India reported transaction failures on the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) across multiple platforms, including PhonePe, Google Pay, and Paytm. NPCI, the regulatory body, in an X post explained the cause of outage as “intermittent technical issues, leading to partial UPI transaction declines”.
