I’ve been using the Unihertz Titan 2 for the last three weeks, and it’s definitely awakened a dormant need. I legitimately missed physical keyboards on smartphones, and typing on one again reminds me why I loved my old BlackBerry devices.
It’s about more than nostalgia, and just because we’ve moved on from a particular form factor doesn’t mean it didn’t have benefits.
The Unihertz Titan 2 is a distinctly different type of phone, to be sure, but much like my favorite BlackBerry devices of yesteryear, I didn’t expect the same things from it as I would from a more traditional slab phone.

When I transitioned to the Unihertz Titan 2, I was frustrated by my typing speed. My muscle memory had long since eroded, and the person who could absolutely fly on a BlackBerry Bold 9900 keyboard no longer stared back at me in the mirror.
I doubt I’ll ever be as swift on a physical keyboard as I am typing on glass, but I’ve discovered other benefits I used to enjoy.
I type more accurately on the Unihertz Titan 2. Yes, it takes me a few more minutes to get out what I want to say, but that’s not a bad thing. Sometimes we benefit from a thought having another second or two to formulate.
I also don’t suffer from a rash of typos, and I rarely have to rely on autocorrect to handle errors.
There have been several physical keyboard phones released over the last few years, but the Unihertz Titan 2 has the best key press of them all.
My fingers experience little fatigue, even when typing longer emails and texts. The key press is positive and clicky, and you’ll immediately feel at home if you’re a previous BlackBerry user.
I love that Unihertz included the capacitive keyboard, a feature you might remember from the BlackBerry Passport.
Being able to use the keyboard as a scroll wheel, swiping back and forth as needed, or scanning through a long document is an excellent experience, and you’ll be surprised how much you enjoy your fingers not blocking the display.

I enjoy using the Unihertz Titan 2 because it functions well enough as a traditional smartphone without inviting excessive use.
It’s powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 7300 with 12GB of RAM, providing capable performance for all of your favorite apps. Instagram and TikTok run smoothly, and typing messages in WhatsApp is a breeze.
Still, with its 4.5-inch LCD featuring a 1:1 aspect ratio, I’m not tempted to spend my entire day scrolling through Facebook. I enjoy reading emails and PDF documents on the Titan 2’s square panel, but it’s a relatively distraction-free design.
It’s a phone built for productivity, even though it’s not a slouch running your favorite apps.
Light gaming is possible if you can tolerate a wonky aspect ratio for most titles. Still, it’s a dream for retro gamers, as the display is excellent for emulation of your favorite titles from years ago.
Plenty of people have asked me about camera performance, and I’ll be the first to say that it’s not good. In excellent lighting, you have the chance to capture a passable image, but don’t expect color or clarity to be there consistently.
It’s the type of phone you use if you carry around another camera.
All-day battery life and then some

BlackBerry devices were primarily known for their keyboards, but long-time users will remember the legendary battery life for which the devices were known. I typically managed to get three days out of a single charge with most of my BlackBerry phones, and battery anxiety was minimal.
Despite running Android 15 and featuring many of today’s modern conveniences, the Unihertz Titan 2 can last for a third day on a single charge, thanks to its 5,050mAh battery.
It’s a joy to throw a phone in my pocket and not worry about whether I need to top off at lunchtime.
We need more companies trying different form factors at affordable prices. People always wanted me to take a look at the F(x) Tec keyboard phone, but the device was over $900 with less-than-impressive specs. Unihertz got the pricing right.
At $400, the Titan 2 is worth considering, offering respectable midrange performance and excellent battery life.
You won’t be disappointed
For most people, a traditional smartphone is still the best choice. The Unihertz Titan 2 has a barely passable camera, and the subscreen on its rear isn’t for everyone — but that’s what I love about it.
Not every phone needs to appeal to every user, and Unihertz is on the right track with its keyboard offerings. If your fingers ache for your old BlackBerry, give the Titan 2 a chance — you’ll be glad you did.
