1. Our Editorial Purpose
NewsPepr exists to help readers understand important developments without unnecessary complexity.
Our editorial approach is guided by the NewsPepr principle:

We aim to provide timely news, clear explainers, useful context, and practical information across the subjects covered by NewsPepr.
Simplifying information does not mean removing important facts, uncertainty, disagreement, or context. Our objective is to make information easier to follow while preserving the meaning and significance of the underlying facts.
2. Accuracy and Verification
Accuracy is a core editorial responsibility.
Before publication, NewsPepr aims to:

Speed does not remove the need for verification. When information is still developing, the article should make that status clear.

Where information comes from an external source, NewsPepr should attribute it appropriately.
Attribution should be clear enough for readers to understand:

Whether a statement is based on a source, document, dataset, announcement, interview, or other material.
When a claim is disputed or cannot be independently verified.
NewsPepr does not present another organisation's reporting, analysis, wording, or reporting effort as its own.

4. Original Reporting and Sourced Content
NewsPepr may publish a mixture of original editorial work, independently researched explainers, source-based news reports, summaries, analysis, and other clearly identified content formats.
The presentation of a story should not imply first-hand reporting when the underlying information was obtained from another source.
NewsPepr may use multiple sources to establish context or confirm important claims. When sources disagree, the disagreement should be preserved rather than silently resolved through unsupported assumptions.
5. Breaking News and Developing Stories
Breaking news can change quickly.
For developing stories, NewsPepr aims to:
Identify information as developing when appropriate.
Use the most reliable information available at the time.
Attribute early reports and unconfirmed claims carefully.
Avoid unnecessary speculation.
Update stories when significant facts are confirmed or corrected.
Make material corrections when earlier information was wrong.
A developing story may therefore change after initial publication. The latest version should reflect the best verified information available to NewsPepr at that time.
6. Headlines, Summaries and Promotional Copy
Headlines, summaries, notifications, search descriptions, social copy, and other promotional text should accurately reflect the underlying article.
NewsPepr does not intentionally use misleading headlines or summaries that create a materially different impression from the article.
Headlines should not:
Invent facts or quotations.
State speculation as certainty.
Exaggerate the significance of an event.
Remove essential context in a way that materially changes meaning.
Use false urgency solely to attract clicks.
A concise headline may simplify a story, but it should not distort it.
7. AI-Assisted Editorial Workflow
NewsPepr uses AI and technology as editorial-support tools.
AI may assist with tasks such as:

Summarisation.
Classification and categorisation.
Draft preparation.
Headline or summary suggestions.
Formatting and metadata preparation.
Translation or language assistance where appropriate.

AI output is not treated as an independent source of truth.
NewsPepr's AI-assisted workflow is designed to preserve source attribution, evidence, quality checks, and human editorial review. AI-generated material must not be treated as verified simply because it is produced by a language model or other automated system.
NewsPepr does not knowingly publish invented facts, quotations, sources, statistics, events, or other unsupported material generated by AI.
Where AI-generated or manipulated media is materially relevant to a story, its nature should be identified and presented with appropriate context.
8. Human Review and Editorial Judgment
The NewsPepr AI automation workflow is designed around controlled editorial review.
Automated processing may prepare or classify material, but publication should follow the applicable quality checks and approval process.
Editorial judgment remains important for:
Factual accuracy.
Source reliability.
Context.
Fair representation.
Risk and potential harm.
Attribution.
Commercial/editorial separation.
Whether a story is ready for publication.
High-risk subjects, conflicting reports, significant allegations, health or medical claims, financial claims, legal matters, safety incidents, and other sensitive material may require additional review.
9. Fairness, Context and Representation
NewsPepr aims to present information fairly and in sufficient context for readers to understand the subject.
Fairness does not require giving equal weight to every claim regardless of the available evidence. It means representing relevant facts, positions, uncertainty, and significant disagreement accurately.
When a person or organisation is the subject of serious criticism or an allegation, NewsPepr should make reasonable efforts to seek relevant comment or response where appropriate and practical.
If a response is not available before publication, that limitation may be explained when relevant to understanding the story.
10. Opinions, Analysis and Explainers

13. User-Generated Content and Reader Submissions
NewsPepr may receive comments, feedback, corrections, story suggestions, requests, or other submissions from readers.
Reader submissions are not automatically treated as verified facts.
Before using submitted information in editorial content, NewsPepr may verify it against other evidence and assess its relevance and reliability.
NewsPepr may decline, edit, remove, or not publish submissions that are unlawful, misleading, abusive, defamatory, invasive of privacy, unsafe, irrelevant, or otherwise unsuitable for publication, subject to applicable law.
14. Privacy and Minimising Harm
NewsPepr aims to balance the public interest in information with the potential harm that publication may cause.
Particular care may be required when reporting on:

Private individuals.
Sensitive personal information.
Health or medical matters.
Traumatic events.
Allegations that have not been established.

16. Copyright, Plagiarism and Use of Third-Party Material
NewsPepr respects copyright and intellectual property rights.
NewsPepr should not copy another publisher's article and present it as original NewsPepr work.
Third-party material may be referenced, quoted, linked, summarised, or otherwise used where there is an appropriate legal and editorial basis for doing so.
Direct quotations should be accurate and should not be taken out of context in a way that changes their meaning.
Where material from another source materially contributes to a story, appropriate attribution should be provided.
17. Corrections and Updates
NewsPepr aims to correct material factual errors promptly after they are identified.
Corrections should be made transparently and proportionately to the significance of the error.
Depending on the nature of the issue, NewsPepr may:
Correct the article directly.
Add a correction or update note.
Clarify the wording.
Update supporting information.
Remove information that cannot be substantiated.
Take other appropriate steps to correct the public record.
Minor spelling, grammar, formatting, or style changes that do not alter factual meaning may be made without a formal correction notice.
